Vodcast: Cybersecurity in public safety

Cyberattacks are increasing across all industries, particularly in public safety. Specific concerns include the theft of sensitive data, cyberhacktivism and cyberterrorism and cyberwarfare, which go beyond compromising sensitive data to crippling a community or even an entire region by, for example, shutting down 911 communications or a power grid.

Thankfully, public safety technology is rapidly evolving, particularly with respect to the cloud. This can significantly reduce the cost and complexity associated with agencies’ cybersecurity upgrades. Modern cloud solutions are very capable of securely storing applications and data needed for emergency response departments.

“When you go to the cloud, you’re going to a best of breed platform that is continually investing” said Tunde Farrell, vice president cloud platform, Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division. “We have so many tools available to us that aren’t available on premises.”
