Accessing Earthquake Damage with 3D Laser Scanning (TV410)

In 2013, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the central Philippines, resulting in almost 100 deaths and causing major infrastructure damage. During restoration efforts, the investigative unit of the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Philippines was called upon to check the stability of the Bohol Bridges. Using Leica Geosystems 3D laser scanning technology, the team found irreversible damage. In this segment, we explore how the team conducted the check and what steps to take next.
