Freedom to innovate: Bringing autonomy to Hexagon’s premiere technology conference

The Autonomy & Positioning Innovation Summit at HxGN LIVE Global 2023 combines a technical perspective on the latest autonomous technologies and an educational approach to exploring these innovations in real applications.

HxGN LIVE Global is Hexagon’s flagship technology conference where divisions showcase how their innovations empower a sustainable and autonomous future. The Autonomy & Positioning Innovation Summit is where attendees will discover how autonomy works, how to leverage technologies to ensure safe autonomous operations and the myriad of applications that benefit from automated and autonomous systems.

During HxGN LIVE Global 2022, the Autonomy & Positioning Reality Summit focused on positioning technologies that build a reliable and accurate position – from satellites to GNSS correction services – and provided attendees with foundational knowledge on how to begin considering autonomous operations in their fields.

The 2023 technology conference builds upon this foundation to give attendees the freedom to invent. This summit empowers innovators by showcasing how autonomous technologies help ensure safe and efficient operations across off-road applications and outlining how attendees can lead their work toward a more sustainable future.

3,000 Orbits: Dr. Robert Thirsk on autonomy & positioning in space

The 2022 summit started with an inspiring keynote from Canadian astronaut, engineer and physician Dr. Robert Thirsk about his time aboard the International Space Station. Dr. Thirsk highlighted autonomous technologies’ role in advancing space exploration and enabling sustainability here on Earth through space technologies.

Accreditation from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

The 2022 summit’s Waypoint Post-Processing Software training included accreditation for continuing education credit or professional development hours toward an attendee’s IEEE licences. The full-day, hands-on training of Waypoint’s Inertial Explorer was fully booked and is being held again in 2023 – learn more about the software and training here.

The premiere of two short films

How are positioning technologies put to the test to ensure they can operate in extreme and highly dynamic scenarios? What role does functional safety have in autonomy, and why is it so difficult to achieve? These questions are answered by two short films that premiered during HxGN LIVE Global 2022: A Positioning Odyssey and NovAtel Tests to the Edge.

Off-road applications like precision agriculture are turning to autonomous technologies to keep up with food demand.

A look ahead at innovations in off-road autonomy

Of the many sessions during 2022’s Autonomy & Positioning Reality Summit, two in particular resonated with attendees. These two sessions looked beyond how users can leverage positioning technologies to enable autonomy and demonstrated how companies are achieving autonomy today.

The session on off-road autonomy in agriculture showed how autonomy helps meet the increasing need for food and other resources. Autonomous and unmanned agriculture technologies increase yields and efficiencies while lowering environmental impact across fields.

Meanwhile, the session on autonomous road trains in Western Australia detailed how autonomy increases the mining workforce’s safety and improves asset transportation.

What you don’t want to miss at HxGN LIVE Global 2023

The 2022 summit laid the foundation for understanding the relationship between positioning technologies and autonomy. This year’s Autonomy & Positioning Innovation Summit highlights autonomous technologies and how they enhance operations, improve safety and empower sustainable practices.

Technical sessions will detail how technologies like perception, positioning and visual odometry systems combine to enable autonomy. Customer-focused panels and discussions will share the expertise needed to implement autonomous agriculture, mining and construction solutions.
