ASSURED Positioning – Anywhere

Precise, ASSURED positioning is central to the products and services we design at Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning (A&P) division. What is ASSURED positioning? It is a level of reliability and integrity checks on top of our high-accuracy positioning solutions. The challenges to achieving a high-accuracy position and also providing a high assurance level are significant, but PI has the experience to meet these challenges. Applying the technology and services we’ve developed over the past 25 years helps us solve these new positioning challenges.

One application where ASSURED positioning is mission-critical is autonomous driving. In 2016, we announced the formation of the Safety Critical Systems group at NovAtel. This group is building on the years of experience PI has in safety-critical applications. For many years, the Federal Aviation Administration’s WAAS and other Global Space Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) have relied on our certified NovAtel GNSS receivers to ensure safe navigation and landing. The offshore oil and gas industry has relied for a long time on our highly redundant Veripos GNSS correction services for safety of life applications. For connected and autonomous car applications, we need to provide “lane-level” accuracy with a high degree of availability and reliability. This requirement translates to an accurate position in three dimensions “all the time.” By combining our expertise and full GNSS signal and constellation support needed to solve the performance criteria of autonomous driving, Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division is striving to deliver optimal solutions to keep us all safe as we drive the autonomous highways of the future.

Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division’s technology will be on display at the Enabling Technology, Transportation and Agriculture islands in The Zone at HXGN LIVE. I invite you to stop by and see for yourself how the potential of our solutions will guide future applications.

ASSURED positioning – This is the shape of potential. Shaping smart change.

Michael Ritter

Michael Ritter, President of Positioning Intelligence, has led the Hexagon group of positioning companies since January 2009. Initially hired as President and CEO of NovAtel, Ritter now directs the strategic activities of NovAtel, Veripos, Antcom and GPSS. With a Dipl.-Ing. degree in geodesy and surveying from the University of Essen, Germany, Ritter acquired his early GNSS experience in global oil exploration at Schlumberger Geco-Prakla. Prior to joining Hexagon, Ritter was employed by Trimble Navigation, where he spent nearly 15 years in a variety of roles ranging from application engineering to general management.
